Rolex Explorer Has Been Updated –New Explorer Model 2010

I could not help but “wow” at the big big news that Rolex has updated the renown Explorer model and has it exhibited at the Basel world. Like last year’s new interpretation of the classic Rolex Submariner watches, the new Rolex Explorer model becomes the biggest star of the watch show. Rolex watches seldom have big changes, and every change they make draw great attention as always.

The case diameter has been increased to 39mm. And the steel the case made from has also been updated to much better steel-the grade 904L steel which is famous for adorable resistance to chemical and corrosion. The dial has some noticeable changes as well. It is given new-generation hour makers and larger hands. Both hands and markers have luminescent Chromalight that ensure optimal reading all the time. The case is fitted with a twinlock crown and is water resistant to 100 meters. Covering the dial of a bit trendy tone is a sapphire crystal. Beating inside the watch is the Rolex in-house made calibre 3132 movement which has, of course, been COSC Chronometer certified.The movement beats at frequency of 28800vph and has a power reserve of 48 hours.

The watch has some similar character as the Submariner, though it has a polished smooth bezel(rather than a diver’s bezel that is rotatable), a thinner case and a dial of not the same style. The updated Explorer model is equipped with a similar bracelet as the one on the Submariner as all, though it has no a glide-lock clasp but Oysterlock. The bracelet also comes with Easylink comfort extension link.

Rolex Explorer is a gospel for Rolex fans who can not afford high-end Rolex watches. It is simple and has lower price tag, but still serves many wrists nice. I believe many Rolex fans will be thrilled at this news as it has been quite a long time since the last update of this model.

Temption CGK204 Watch with Yellow Tone

It is a bit shame that I know quite few about Temption, a bougitue watch maker based in German. But I am sure few people outside the major watch enthusiast circle know this brand. It is said that , though it is hard to get a Temption watch in the United States, there still are some the brand’s loyal fans. With outstanding combination of contemporary design and Bauhaus style, Temption watches always looks fantastic.

And the first Temption watch I knew was CGk204. It was the watch that made me a fan of this brand. Back to the point, this watch has been given yellow trim treatment this year . Both the chronograph hands and the sticthing on the black calf leather strap are in bright yellow. This treatment brings an additional sporty and dynamic touch to the already very nice design. The dial still has the classic black and white hints. And the still case, sized at 43mm, is very well constructed and has lots of interesting details.I love the chronograph pushers, the column engraved siding and the onyx cabochons in the crown

The new CGk204 houses a Valjoux 7751 automatic movement that provides the time , 12-hour chronograph, annual calendar. And there is also a subdial with a synchronized 24 hour hand and moonphase indicator. And Temption has shown its talent to make a reasonable layout for so many complications. In addition, the movement has been nicely decorated. You can admire via the sapphire crystal case back..

The price tag at $3620 is good considering Temption makes less than 1000 watches each year. And the existing Temption CGK204 watches will have new looks with other tones as well.

No More Panerai For Ferrari Watches

Panerai got the contract from Ferrerari several years ago and it started to make Ferrari branded luxury watches. As we know, Panerai was extremely popularity in 2000’s with very high level demand. Therefore, the Italian super car maker seems to make a correct choice to have Panerai design and make watch for them. It was reported Panerai was not that into the contract but was forced to enter the agreement by its parent company. At the end, a 5-year agreement was signed between the two Italian brands.

However, the Panerai for Ferrari watches were not recognized by consumers even at the very beginning.The unite price for those watches were normally within $10,000 range at the beginning. While the watches well combined Panerai DNA with Ferrari features, they just did not sell well. Consumers complained that they did not have as much value as the high price tag, and they lose the original value of Panerai watches.

It has been five years since the contract began. And the contract due to expire now. Neither Panerai nor Ferrari is willing to renew. In my humble opinion, the “marriage” was a mistake at the beginning. Ferrari did not have enough influence on their branded watches, while Panerai invited complaints for making more high-priced watches. So I am not very surprised that they broke up after 5-year relationship.

What I am curious is who will be the next partner of Ferrari? Panerai is now enjoying the freedom, many others are likely drooling to get the Ferrari name license. Will Ferrari choose to launch relatively low-priced watches that they have more controls? Or Will Ferrari will cooperate with a smaller brands that is able to produce luxury watches that are more faithful to Ferrari look and lifestyle? I here waiting for the result.

Review of Vogard Radiator F1 Watch

Vogard, as a famous indy watch maker, has presented their newest watch offering-the Radiator F1 which is mostly based on the brand’s world time collection and is given a clear F1 racing theme. Why it is called Radiator? It it because it has a skeleton style dial that is inspired by the car radiator.

The case, sized at 43mm, is presented on black steel and Titanium Carbide. This material combination is adorably hard. And the case is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. Beating inside is a Vogard modified Swiss automatic movement. And the watch come with lots of strap options- a metal bracelet, a rubber strap or a alligator strap in red or black.

And the watch has lots lovely features: You can adjust the timezone via turning the bezel that features famous F1 tracks around the world rather than the reference time city names. But you have to open the latch at the right side of the watch and unlock the bezel motion first. And the time can be adjusted easily and you will not suffer any loss in timing accuracy. On the stylish dial, there is a 24 hour hand used as an indicator for AM/PM. And the watch is also able to indicate daylight savi g time, which is help you to calculate the differences between timezones.

Vogard Radiator F1 definitely stands out from many other Vogard watches that are much conservative. However , this cool watch still has the brand’s unique DNA. This watch will be available very soon.

New Grieb & Benzinger Minute Repeater Watch

Famous watch engraver Jachen Benzinger, also known as Grieb & Benzinger Company, has presented their latest watch offering. Benzinger does not always make watches, instead, they launch special models sometimes. Their superb mastery of traditional guilloche engraving brings them lots of fans. Pls note that no one on the planet can present guilloche engraving as beautiful as those come from their hands.

The new watch baby from Bezinger reminds me of Frankenstein though it is much more sophisticated.Sized at 49mm, the case is completely crafted from platinum and has good weight of 130 grams. Bezinger’s adorable engraving finds home on the bezel. And the watch itself is matched with a blue reptile, which looks quite interesting.

The classic case houses a vintage movement that is more than 120 years old. Well, this hand wound pocket watch movement was made by Patek Phillippe watches for Tiffany & Co in 1987. Benzinger modified and finished it and made it the heart of the cool item. The movement displays the time in a regulator style , and the minute repeater function is activated via the slide lever on the left side of the case. Through the breathtaking skeletionized dial, you can have a good view of the refined polishing and finishing of the movement.The dial has unique style of Benzinger. It applies a suitable amount of blued steel to match the deep blue strap.

To sum up, this is a beautiful creation that owns the interesting characters of three brands- Benzinger, Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co.As far as I know, the price range for Benzinger’s minute repeater watches is 175,000 – 250,000 euros. The price of the new creation may be within or a little above the range. And not sure how many pieces will be made. But it is probably an exclusive limited edition.

Review of Doxa Grafic Open Heart Watch

Doxa is a watch company that is famous for making a retro style diving watch with orange dial. Following the success of this model, Doxa keeps launching new models that are quite similar to it. While not having a big big name in watch field, Doxa has an adorable history of making some other interesting stuff.

Here I would like to the the Doxa Grafic Open Heart watch-one of the brand’s 2010 new watch offerings. This watch feels quite simple at first sight. But take a closer look, you may discover not a few interesting designs.

If I am not wrong, the watch got lots of inspiration from the brand’s design dated back to 1950s. It seems that those designers has used up all imagination. In desperation, they went back to 1950s to get charged. I feel that they directly used the case design.

The steel case is a rectangle sized at 40×43mm. And the black dial is a standard square.The off center dial is set off by those big asymmetric baton hour markers. And the impeccably center-placed hands save it from looking skewed.I love the red seconds hand as it brightens up the dial and makes it look much nicer. There is open dial revealing the balance wheel of the Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. And I have to say the designers did a great job in fitting this window.

The watch dial is also available in brown and silver. But I love the black version best. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch case is watch resistant to a depth of 30 meters.

The watch goes for several thousand dollars. Think it twice though the watch face is quite attractive.

Six Best Jaeger Lecoultre Watches Ever Made In 2010

This year Jaeger Lecoultre presents the world a number of interesting watches. Here I would like to share some of the most important Jaeger Lecoultre watches.

In my heart, Extreme Lab 2, is the star model of the Jaeger Lecoultre 2010. I already wrote a review of it. So I am not going to say more about it here. If you have interested, pls click here for details. And I think just in the SIHH 2010, just Lange’s Zeitwerk and Richard Mille’s RM027 could compete with it.

Tourbillon is not a must-have complication for me. What amazes me is that the repeater volume. To my knowledge, one have to stay in quiet room to enjoy the songs of the repeater. But for Master Grande Tradition, it is not necessary to do that as the decibel level is high enough to be heard in a crowded room at a distance of 5 meters. To be honest, the repeater is so loud that I even ignore other complications on the watch. I am now consider adding a repeater wristwatch that has same high volume of this piece. Why not Master Grande Tradition? It is a bit expensive for me. I will look for a cheaper alternative for myself.

The Duometre collection is a big surprise from Jaeger. I am really thrilled that the Duometre line get continued. And the new collection did shine at the SIHH 2010 watch show. The time display is located on the right side of the dial, and the date and moon-phase dial replases the chrono at the left side. The lower part of the dial has the subdial that indicates the power reserve, and reveals part of the movement that has received refined finishes. Also surprising is that the list price drops while it maintains the architecture. It is a good new for those who do not use chrono often but need a more practical complication instead.

The Navy Seals Automatic watch comes with a neat look and a big size. Not everyone can handle it. It it really looks cool and decent. And the price is not crazy-less then 6,000 Euros. It grows on me at first sight. I admit.

I already wrote about an article about Memovox International. And honestly, it is one of the most elegant watches I have seen in these years.

As the reediton of the Extreme Chrono, Extreme World Chrono does not look like a Jaeger watch. I love the pleasant chrono hour hand. I expect to try it on if possible.

Lots of mechanical watch lovers are loyal fans of Eterna watches. As know to the fans, this brand took charge of the launching issues of the prestigious Swiss watch movement maker ETA that is now under the wing of Swatch Group, and one of their important technical additions to the horologe is to add ball bearing to automatic mechanical movements.-That is why the brand logo is composed of five ball bearings.

As far as I know, the Spherodrive which was released last year is the brand’s latest mechanical work. Representing a noticeable improvement odn the mainspring, the Spherodrive was first applied on a a Madison watch and will be fitted into a new Madison watch that features an 8 day power reserve.

The new Eterna Madison Eight Days Spherodrive watch, 53mm tall and 38mm wide, is crafted from top grade stainless steel. The case, fitted with sapphire crystal, is water resistant to 30 meters. The dial has there color options including silver, gray and black, and displays the time , big date and power reserve indicator that features red disc. But not like the original Madison Spherodiver watch which was introduced last year, the dial does not reveal the mainspring barrel that the brand is proud of. I really appreciate that Eterna is able to combine a classic style with new technology so perfect on a futuristic watch.Beating inside the watch is the Eterna manually wound Caliber 3510, a brand new movement. Like most Eterna watches , the watch is a long lasting and highly reliable mechanical piece that will give a great experience.

.The price is likely to be a few thousand dollars. It is a bargain actually given you get a well-constructed watch with a accurate movement and a nice classic style.

De Bethune DB25 And DB24

De Bethune watches are technically perfect and have impeccable finishes. But their important models are too expensive to afford. Luckily, there are still some entry-level models that has same high-grade finishes and less decorated stuff inside and around the watches. Among them DB25 and DB24 are my new favorites.

In my eye, the DB25 partially looks like the Richard Mille “Perini Navi” and partially the Patek “Calatrava”. To my knowledge, there fusions are normally successful and well-received in watch world. But obviously, DB is an exception. The two models that it is based on can actually proud of it. As a modern timepiece though, the DB25 surprisingly brims over with elegance. The power reserve at 18 o’clock is very easy to read while being a natural part of the dial-not intrusive at all. Like other De Bethune, it comes with refined finishes and adorable technical features. Honestly, its price tag is still high but it sure stands out in the price range.

Still I have an regret about DB25. Don’t you think it will looks much better if matched with dark blur strap given it has blue dial? If I own DB25, I will definitely give it a blue strap to make it greater than what it is now.

Compared with DB25, DB24 is much more sporty and larger. Still it is very well balanced with reasonable thickness. The blue color on the dial is done vid heat and finished with a number of polishing methods. That is why the dial has no paint or enamel.

Similar to Richard’s RM010, the DB24 has three positions to adapt the speed of the winding rotor to your lifestyle. What is different is that DB24 allows you to set them by yourself at anytime.- it is not necessary to open or send the watch for service. The setting can be reached both at front and rear. Personally, I think just the one at the rear is enough. And the dial will be much cleaner if remove the two indicators on it.

Another regret is about the reading of the watch: the hour hand is easily confused with the minute hand, and the power reserve at 12 o’clock is a bit difficult to see though it looks very hot. Still, DB24 is a good option if the tonneau cases of RM do not work for you.

Most watch lovers prefer mechanical watches when it comes to choose a high end watch.In their mind, quartz watches do not deserve big investment. But actually, there are not a few quartz watch models in the horologe world. Breitling, for example, put a number of time, effort and engineering to create super precise quartz watches that never pale before high end mechanical watches.

As far as I know, all Breitling quartz watches are powered by Breitling calibre 73. This thermo-compensated and COSC Chronometer certified.quartz movement is called Super Quartz due to its adorable accuracy-accurate to within a few seconds a year. It is composed of top quality components and very well constructed. Also it features an exclusive quartz regulator that makes necessary adjustments when temperature changes. The changes are the main cause for rate variations of quartz movements. And the construction cost of Super Quartz are much higher than that of normal quartz watches.

Now, the newest Breiting quartz watch is the Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel Watch. Aside from the Super Quartz, the watch has two shining features.Firstly, it has been equipped with the brand’s magnetic chronograph pusher system which allows the wearer to operate the chronograph under water; Secondly, it comes with a “directional memory” system. There are compass degree markers on the flange. And you can set a specific direction you are headed into the watch, and you can set the watch to recall that specific direction on command.

The case, sized at 45.4mm, is done in stainless steel and coated with black diamond like carbon. The crystal is a domed sapphire. Water resistant to 1000 meters, the watch is fitted with a black rubber strap with “portholes.”And the watch functions include the time, date, and split second chronograph..

The Breitling Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel Watch is limited to 2000 pieces with a price tag of $5,015. I think its masculine look and advanced technical features will sure attract not a few watch lovers.
