Four decades ago, Petek Philippe offered customer with Cal. 9-90. You could get a Petek Philippe watch with this retangular basic movement. It was also 40 years ago that Petek Philippe stopped producing its only rectangular basic movement-Cal. 9-90. Therefore, people had to turn to Ref. 3939 that used Cal.215. Of course, it was not an important matter for those who are born to like rounded wristwatches or people who are suitable for rounded watches. However, to those who have a natural temperament to wear rectangular watches like REVERSO, it meant a destinated miss. After all, to any one, it is a great honor to be able to wear Petek Philippe.

Finally, 40 years later, Patek Philippe launched the vintage edition of Cal.9-90: new Cal.25-21 REC. REC is not abbreviation of some what complex functions but a simple label of this rectangular movement. Compared with the original one, new REC movement looks much slender. It is 24.6mm by 21.5mm at dimension while old Cal.9-90 has a dimension of 25.6mm by 18mm. Obviously, the width is increased quite a bit. Considering the characteristics of modern movements, Petek Philippe puts the height in place: new REC is reduced by 1mm at height compared with original model.
Balance, naturally, is invaluable asset of Petek Philippe. New Rec uses GYROMAX double-arm 8 weight super balance. At the same time , Petek Philippe equips the rectangular basic ultra-thin movement with flat spring, which is great break for Petek Philippe that uses wind-up spring in great quantity. The frequency is also improved to 28,800VPH. The plate design, to a great extent, copies that of the classic Cal.9-90. It adopts the general design of ancient wristwatches: the central train bridge presents a s shape while the balance bridge, escapement bridge and minute train bridge branch out from the perimeter zone of the movement, The brushing and polishing , without any doubts, conform with Geneva rules. Five positions timing is used to ensure this top-brand basic wristwatch working will not pale beside COSC Standard. Except Geneva logo, this movement also gets chronometer certification.
To bring back the style 40 years ago, Petek Philippe spares no effort to make the case perfect: the case has a tonneau shape while to case back slightly arches to meet the wrist line. The hands features classic design, like those hands used on desk clocks that appeared in Chinese market in 1970s or even earlier period. The exquisite patten on the dial spreads from center to all around while classic Arabic numerals surround the center part. In a word, the dial is really interesting and attractive.
Last but no least, let us look at the buckle. Petek Philippe abandons the consistently used folding clasp and matches this Chronometro Gondolo Vintage Edition with pin buckle which was used long time ago.
40 years later, another Petek Philippe rectangular basic movement shows up. Just mourn for those who waited for a long time but could not wait till it appeared again.
