Girard-Perregaux Special Centennial Watch For Ermenegildo Zegna 100th Anniversary

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, famous Italian designer Ermenegildo Zegna has chosen watch maker Girard-Perregaux to create a special watch for them. In my opinion, it is a smarter solution than designing a watch itself with the brand name on it. Obviously, it is a mutually beneficial cooperation. The name looks fine in writing, but is is a torture to pronounce it correctly. The name of Girard-Perregaux does not appear on the dial together with Zegna, but if you are a watch lover of this Swiss brand, you can easily spot that it is a Girard-Perregaux-made watch based on the style.

The case, sized at 44mm, is presented on 18k pink gold. Beating inside is the Caliber 3300-0042 automatic movement that is independently made in Girard-Perregaux house. The dial, protected by the sapphire crystal glass, features an annual calendar and a nice presentation of dials.The crescent shaped window between 4 and 6 o’clock displays the month, the subdial at 2 ‘clock tells the date, and the subdial at 9 o’clock has the running seconds. Three blue indicator come with different shapes to enhance the reading. And according to my knowledge, the design meets the modern fashion of Girard-Perregaux watches.

Personally, I love the conbination of the blue color and the rose gold-very regal and elegant. And I think, fans of the Zegna are going to love the spcial watch as well. But I am afraid fans of Girard Perregaux watches will probably turn to other complicated models in the watch line.By the way, the dial to me is like a face with weird smile. What do you think?

DeMonaco has created their latest watch offering-the Carre d’Or Squelette Tourbillon Minute Repeater which has been displayed at the Geneva Time Exhibition. And as DeMonaco has just finished the first of the limited 8 pieces, and the piece has been sold, the new watch will not be officially unveiled till the Baselworld2010. The watch is composed of Swiss-made parts and is assembled and finished in Monaco. It is reported that DeMonaco plans to develop, design and make their own movements.

The Carre d’Or Squelette Tourbillon Minute Repeater watch, sized at 46 by 50mm, comes with outstanding design and fantastic finishing. The case is done in 18k gold and has a titanium core. Beating inside is brand new TB-RM1 hand-wound movement with a tourbillon. The movement delivers 48-hour power reserve, and the tourbillon features the brand’s signature bridge made of sapphire crystal. The movement manufacture is is a painstaking task especially when it comes to the tourbillon part. The mainplate, which is nicely cut to form the art deco style Roman numerals, can be clearly view via the skeletonized dial. And there are diamond shaped hour markers that are made of titanium and fine polished. The hands are crafted from solid gold as well. The display case back further reveal the exquisite decoration of the movement. There are lots of little pyramids on it.

As the name suggests, the watch has another complex complication-minute repeater which is operated through the slide lever on the left side of the case. And DeMonaco has equipped with a big wooden amplifier to enlarge the minute repeater chimes. By the way, the finishing on the watch is all done by hands and is impressively beautiful. The price of the watch is estimated to be more than $100,000.

Hublot will Save Part of BNB concept

I posted a post about BNB concept’s probable declare of bankruptcy at helloreplicas.net. As a very important movement manufacturer the news was very bad and sad Swiss watch making world.

And today, I just got the news that Hublot watch, the well established luxury watch brand and the VIP client of BNB concept, would take over the movement maker. I had never thought Hublot watches would play a role of a big hero who comes to rescue a brand in danger. And LVMH, who owned the Hublot has annouced and confirmed that it will buy BNB concept.

I do not know what it means very clearly. But Hublot did reveal not long ago that it wanted to be a movement manufacturer in near future and produce movements for their luxury watches themselves.

And the news further reveals that Hublot is trying to get part of BNB Concept’s technology, personal and machnery. But news just stops here without telling that if Hublot will operate the purchased BNB Concept in the origianal manufacture or transfer it to other place.

What is sure is that, Hublot watches can not save 100% of BNB concept. It can only rescue part of it, which means that part of BNB concept’s staff will lose job, and the clients may have to turn to other movement provider, though they have few options.

Preview of Hublot Gold King Power Tourbillon GMT Watch

Hublot works hard to keep the popularity of the Big Bang series watches that have a huge fans regiment. Hublot has been less innovative for several years. But it does not loose customers with lots of luxury characters.

This year, it seems that Hublot becomes a bit more creative. It dresses its new watch offering- Hublot Gold King Power Tourbillon GMT with a new gold called “King Gold.” In fact, this new gold alloy is still a rose gold though it has 5% platinum in it. In another word, it is a fusion of rose gold and a hint of white gold.It seems that the watch industry is having a new gold fashion. To my knowledge, Hublot is not the only brand that has new gold this year. German top luxury watch maker Lange & Sohne has also announced their Honey Gold alloy.

Except the new coat, Hublot Gold King Power Tourbillon GMT is also the brand’s first watch that has tourbillon, GMT and a retrograde date indicator-all in one. Is it inspiring?

The case, sized in 48mm, is basically done in King Gold. And like other Hublot watches, it applies other materials like titanium, ceramic, composite resin and rubber to keep its sophisticated look. The dial really looks nice at first sight. But as nearly 3 quarters of the surface uses similar tone, you may get lost in few seconds. That is to say the dial is not very easy to read. But as a nice mixture of real dial and exposed movement, it still looks very sharp. Through the tourbillon, you can have a clear view of the major gears of the movement.

This new Hublot watch, limited to just 28 pieces, will make its debut in Baselworld 2010. The price must but very expensive given the exclusivity, the sharp look and the complexity.

New IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Watches Review

IWC has enriched its Portuguese Perpetual Calendar line with four new models-two in red gold and two in white gold. There is actually very small room for this line to improve technically. In the watch industry, it already represent highest level in perpetual calendar watch field. These new offerings are born to further increase the model options for IWC watches lovers.

These new members to IWC Perpetual calendar line 25-year old houses that is IWC-manufactured 50000-calibres with seven-day power reserve. They carry on the line’s famous complexity and versatility. This highly complicated watch has date, day, month, year displays and perpertual moon phase indicator all in one. It neads just one leap day correction in February. That is to say, in 80 years from now, the watch displays advance independently without any intervention by the wearer. The watch just need the wearer provide kinetic energy through the Pellaton winding system of the automatic movement when wearing it.

The moon is the most important astronomical indication of these watches. And it boosts same accuracy as scientific instruments. As far as I know, the gearring has been modified to allow the moon display reaches the adorable accuracy. You know, the very small residual error of 12 seconds each lunar perios will amount to only one day after 577 years. It is no exaggeration to say, only the real moon is more precise than it.

Philip van Horn Weems is famous for his outstanding invention: a watch that is able to complement the plane’s on-board chronometers. More Details about MB&F HM2-SV watch

I presented the preview of the latest watch offering by MB&F before it was officially released on January 12. This watch is and updated version of the well-known MB&F HM2 watch and is known as the HM2-SV. Now I have more details to share.

The biggest characteristic of this watch is that it has a big 3.6mm thick sapphire crystal front plate instead of a metal one. This creative construction allows the wearer to admire the brand’s automatic movement that gives power to both dials of the watch.

Here share two pictures to demonstrate the highly complex sapphire crystal. And as expected, you can clearly see the inner structure of the movement through it. The sapphire crystal is very difficult to make. It is said that just one out of four was successfully made while three others broke during the process.And the it took 55 hours to complete making and cutting a crystal. And after that, the artisan had to start the most difficult part-to drill holes for the screws.And you may notice the blue ring around the plate. Guess what it is? The left face of HM2-SV presents the moon phase indicator and the date, and the right face displays jumping hours and has a retrograde minute scale. The rear of the watch is crafted from titanium. AS revealed in last post, this pretty awesome watchfrom the avant garde high-end watch brand will be exclusively limited to 25 pieces. The low production may disappoint some watch lovers who can afford the expensive price tag.

In the past year, I did reviews on not a few new models in the Omega Constellation. And the last post was about Omaga holiday season 2009 collection. Not sure if the two new Constellation included in that collection sold well or not in the holiday season, but I could feel and I am sure now that Omega has made the Constellation their most important lady’s watch line. If you are huge fan of Omega watches like me, you may also notice that this line has various sophisticated models available for discerning ladies. The ladies’ Constellation watches are avaible in at least five sizes including 24, 27, 24, 35 and 38mm to fit into a vast range of wrists. Various materials from steel to gold and lots of colors including purple, champagne , black and white are applied to offer vast options to women.What is more, this line has world’s most iconic female celebrities, such as Cindy Crawford who has been working with Omega since 1995, as its ambassadors. When Omega launched Constellation from steel with quartz movements to gold with mechanical movements and diamond, I was more than sure that this line was going to be the brand’s flagship line in famale watch section.

To my knowledge, the entry-level versions house quartz movements like Swiss caliber 1376 and 1523, and the higher end models are equipped with Omega Co-Axial automatic calibers including the 8500/8501, 8520/8521 and 2500. Omega keeps the line’s signature claws and the seamless bracelet of Constellation watches. While I reserve my opinions on the claws, I can not hide my love the bracelet design that are complex in construction yet simple and elegant in appearance. Personally, I think the unique bracelet design contributes a lot to the line’s nice look. Nowadays, Constellation watches are also available in leather or rubber straps of various color options

I totally agree that Constellation contains lots of today’s most beautiful women’s watch and Omega does great job in this line. As great fusion of functions, elegance and luxury style, Omega Constellation is the right choose for women want to own luxury timepieces. The prices begin at several thousands and go up to $10,000 – $15,000 and even more for highest-end versions.
